Looking to expand their share of the growing internet retail market, electronics giant Best Buy has released Remix, an API that grants developers access to the retailer’s online catalog. Version 1 of the API, developed by Mashery, offers access to information about products and stores, including in-store availability for a local area.
Is this the beginning of a mass entry into the programmable web for giant retailers? Will Best Buy muscle in on Amazon for developer hearts and minds? We’ll see, but with a proactive (and responsive) online team (@BestBuyRemix, Developer Forums, etc.), Best Buy seems to be hitting the right notes early.
Got an idea? Want to integrate Remix with your site? I just released a PHP library in our Lab. The library is hosted on Google code, so be sure to watch for updates as the Remix API matures and moves out of Beta.
